Virginia Pediatric Eye Center is seeking an experienced Medical Biller.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Posting charges and payments.
  • Checking eligibility and benefits verification for treatments and procedures.
  • Reviewing patient bills for accuracy and completeness, and obtaining any missing information.
  • Preparing, reviewing, and transmitting claims using billing software, including electronic and paper claim processing.
  • Following up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle time frame.
  • Checking each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contract discount.
  • Calling insurance companies regarding any discrepancy in payments if necessary
  • Identifying and billing secondary or tertiary insurances.
  • Reviewing accounts for insurance of patient follow-up.
  • Researching and appealing denied claims.
  • Answering all patient or insurance telephone inquiries pertaining to assigned accounts.
  • Setting up patient payment plans and work collection accounts
  • Working aged receivables

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in medical billing required
  • Adherence to laws and best practices in regards to dealing with customers and data
  • Must be comfortable dealing with numbers and the processing of financial 
  • information
  • Results-driven and patient
  • Must have a high degree of attention to detail and trustworthiness
  • Optometry and Ophthalmology billing experience preferred
  • Qualified candidates must understand insurance carrier rules and edits, as well as possess good customer service skills
  • Experience using Allscripts PM is a plus.

Virginia Pediatric Eye Center is a busy pediatric ophthalmology/optometry practice with a primary office in Virginia Beach and satellite location in Norfolk. We are looking for a qualified, social, friendly Optical Assistant with 2-3 years experience to work with our patients to find the most suitable eyewear for their needs. You will recommend specific eyewear, take measurements, fit and adjust glasses, and teach patients to properly wear and care for their glasses.

To be successful, you should have strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills. You should be able to recommend specialized eyewear such as for sports and occupational use, as well as informing on and recommending tints and anti-reflective coatings.

Position Responsibilities include:

  • Obtaining patient prescriptions from Optometrists and Ophthalmologists.
  • Taking patient information and measurements of the ocular area.
  • Recommending frames or contact lenses that suit the patient’s style, face, and specifications.
  • Adjusting and fitting frames according to the prescriptions and patient’s specifications, as well as to suit the patient’s face.
  • Preparing and placing lens / frame orders.
  • Using specialized equipment, such as calipers, lensometers, and lens gauges.
  • Keeping inventory on frames to ensure product variety and patient satisfaction.
  • Repairing broken frames.
  • Educating patients on how to wear and maintain glasses.
  • Performing administrative duties, such as billing and insurance eligibility / authorizations.

Applicants should have knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy and terminology, experience in establishing rapport with children and their parents, good communication and computer skills, experience using EMR’s, and a strong work ethic. Experience scheduling in Allscripts PM is a plus.

Scheduled days are Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am – 7:00pm and up to two Saturdays per month.

Virginia Pediatric Eye Center is looking for qualified applicants who enjoy working with children and have 2-3 years experience working as an Ophthalmic Assistant/Ophthalmic Techs.

Knowledge of exam flow, contact lenses and specialty testing, such as visual fields, OCT and imaging are a plus. COA or COT credentials a plus. Applicants should have knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy and terminology, experience working up patients, ability to establish rapport with children and their parents, good communication and computer skills, experience using EMR’s, and a strong work ethic. Experience scheduling in Allscripts PM is a plus.

Position is full-time Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30am- 5:30pm and up to two Saturdays per month.
